New Delhi: The BCCI is in search of a new sponsor after the main sponsor Vivo withdrew from the 13th season of IPL. According to the news, Patanjali, a company of yoga guru Baba Ramdev, can bid for the sponsorship of IPL 2020. According to Economics Times, SK Tijarawala, a spokesperson for Patanjali, said, “We want to make Patanjali a global brand and that’s why we are thinking about IPL sponsorship.”
Patanjali will get big benefit
However, market experts believe that Patanjali is not a global brand. If he becomes the title sponsor of the IPL, he will surely benefit but the IPL will not benefit. Since the departure of Vivo, companies like Jio, Amazon, Tata Group, Dream 11 and Byju have shown interest in the title sponsorship of IPL. BCCI will follow the entire transparency and procedure for the new sponsor of IPL-13. BCCI is going to remove ITB soon. The tender process will be followed for selecting sponsors, as the board wants transparency. The winner of the auction will be appointed as the sponsor of the 13th season of the IPL to be held in the UAE from 19 September to 10 November in the UAE.
BCCI was to get 440 crores from Vivo
Vivo had last week decided to end the agreement with the BCCI amidst the growing demand for boycott of Chinese goods after the India-China border dispute. In 2017, Vivo India acquired IPL title sponsorship rights for Rs 2199 crore. According to the agreement, the company had to pay around Rs 440 crore to BCCI every season.
There are speculations that the new sponsors may not be able to pay such a price and the BCCI is sure to lose. However, Sourav Ganguly feels that much of its Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) chairman Sourav Ganguly has called the suspension of the Indian Premier League (IPL) title sponsorship deal with Chinese mobile company Vivo a mere ‘blow’ and Dismissed the discussions that a ‘financial crisis’ could arise from it.
