New Delhi: The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), renowned for its Amul brand, has recently implemented a price hike for fresh milk. Effective from June 3, 2024, this move impacts consumers across all markets in the country.
Price Adjustments:
- Amul Gold and Amul Taaza: Both these popular milk variants will now cost Rs 2 more per litre due to the recent revision.
- Amul Buffalo Milk: The price of buffalo milk has been raised by Rs 3 per litre.
- Other Variants: The remaining milk products will see a more modest increase of Rs 1 per litre.
Reasons Behind the Hike:
The GCMMF attributes this price adjustment to the surge in input costs. Rising expenses related to operations and milk production have necessitated this move. Additionally, the federation highlights that member unions have already increased the farmer’s milk procurement price by approximately 6-8% over the past year.
Amul’s Commitment to Producers:
- Stable Pricing Since February 2023: Notably, Amul has refrained from raising prices for fresh milk pouches in major markets since February 2023.
- Consumer Impact: Amul ensures that nearly 80 paise of every rupee paid by consumers goes directly to milk producers. This price revision aims to sustain remunerative milk prices for farmers and encourage higher milk production.
