Kabul: The Taliban once again appealed to the United Nations on Friday, saying that the seat of Afghanistan should be given to it. This fresh appeal has been made after the resignation of the ambassador of the previous government. The previous government had the support of America. In fact, the new Islamic ruler of Afghanistan wants to appoint his people to the seat of the United Nations and some other embassies abroad, while the exiled diplomats have opened a front against them. The tug of war between the two is going on in this matter. As of now, no country has recognized the Taliban regime.
UN Assistant Spokesperson Farhan Haq told the AFP news agency that Afghan Ambassador Ghulam Isakzai had submitted his resignation on December 15. A letter has been received in this regard on Thursday. The Taliban’s nominated representative for this post, Suhail Shaheen, has said that now this seat should be given to the new government of Afghanistan, which is related to the credibility of the global institution.
The Taliban was openly criticized
He said on Twitter that now the current government in Afghanistan has ‘sovereignty’ over the country. Earlier this month, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution. There was certainly a delay in deciding on the Taliban’s claim. However, a month after the Taliban’s takeover of Kabul, Ghulam Isakzai, the ambassador of the previous government, remained at the United Nations. He openly criticized the new rulers of Afghanistan at the Security Council meeting in November.
Suhail Shaheen has been the choice of foreign media
Earlier, when the Taliban ruled Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001, the Taliban had no UN representation, and their rule was recognized by only three countries – Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Pakistan. This time the UN nominee Shaheen had served as the Deputy Ambassador to Islamabad during that period. He has been the choice of foreign media because of Shaheen’s clear English.
