Jeddah (Saudi Arabia): A fire broke out in a university near the border of Saudi Arabia, adjacent to Yemen. The country’s air security system attempted to intercept ballistic missiles and Drones loaded with bombs thrown at the Saudi side, following which the incident occurred.
The Saudi-led military coalition in Yemen said in a statement that debris fell on the Jijan University campus while fending off missiles and drones, which was later controlled. It said that no one has been killed and no immediate reports of injuries have been received. Huti rebels have carried out similar attacks in the past.
The conflict in Yemen has continued since the Houthi rebels took over in the capital Sanaa in 2014 after which the internationally recognized government had to leave the city and flee. The Saudi-led military alliance has been fighting Houthi rebels ever since.
The United Nations Office of Humanitarian Assistance said that about 2,33,000 people died in the war. These include 1,31,000 deaths due to indirect causes such as lack of food, health services and infrastructure.
