Indore : Today marks the birthday of the legendary Lata Mangeshkar, affectionately known as the queen of melody. Born in Indore on September 28, 1929, Mangeshkar’s voice has left an indelible mark on Indian music. To honor her memory, local artist Milind Dhavale has created a remarkable tribute.
A Unique Tribute by Milind Dhavale
In a heartfelt homage, Dhavale has crafted a stunning black-and-white portrait of Lata Mangeshkar. What sets this 31-inch by 23-inch artwork apart is the intricate detailing: the titles of 90 of Mangeshkar’s hit songs are meticulously inscribed within the lines of the portrait. Each song title is strategically placed to enhance the portrait’s overall impact.
For instance, the title “Bindiya Chamkegi, Choodi Khankagi” is cleverly positioned at the bindi on Mangeshkar’s forehead, while “Dheere-Dheere Bol, Koi Sun Na Le” is elegantly etched on her lips. This thoughtful placement adds a layer of depth and meaning to the portrait, making it a true masterpiece.
Songs’ Opening Lines in the Portrait
Dhavale, 55, has also included the iconic song “Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon” on Mangeshkar’s forehead. He believes this patriotic anthem, which honors the sacrifices of Indian soldiers, remains deeply ingrained in the hearts of Indian citizens. The opening lines of all 90 songs are so finely written that they can only be discerned up close, while from a distance, they blend seamlessly into the portrait’s lines.
A Dream Unfulfilled
In an interview with media Dhavale shared his regret that he could not present this portrait to Mangeshkar personally. He created the artwork for her 90th birthday and had hoped to gift it to her, but his wish remained unfulfilled. “I will always regret that I could not meet Mangeshkar and gift her this portrait,” he expressed.
