New Delhi: New Delhi-Varanasi Vande Bharat Express train was stopped on Saturday due to a technical snag due to a wheel jam and passengers were sent on the onward journey of the Shatabdi train. Officials confirmed this saying that the wheels were not able to spin completely due to a fault in the ‘traction motor’. Officials termed the condition as a ‘flat tyre’.

Officials said the semi-high-speed train left New Delhi railway station on time at 6 am, but its journey was terminated at Khurja station in Uttar Pradesh after covering a distance of 90 km. All 1068 passengers aboard Vande Bharat were boarded in Shatabdi Express sent from Delhi and left for the onward journey at 12:40 pm.

The Vande Bharat train started moving at a speed of 100 kmph, but stopped at Ver station (Bulandshahr), 67 km from Delhi, at 7.30 am. After this, the train was taken 20 km further to Khurja station. “Varanasi Vande Bharat Rake (Train No. 22436) suffered failure due to faulty traction motor of C-8 coach between Dankaur and Ver railway station of North Central Railway,” the railways said in a statement.

According to the statement, with the help of the National Capital Region (NCR), the jam situation was rectified, but in the meantime, due to a problem with an 80 mm flat tyre, the train was taken to Khurja station at a limited speed of 20 kmph. This failure in operation will be investigated in detail, the statement said. A traction motor is an electric motor used in the propulsion of a system such as a locomotive, electric or hydrogen vehicle.

A ‘flat tyre’ refers to the discrepancy in the correct roundness of the wheel due to the formation of some ‘flat’ space on the circumference of the wheel. Vande Bharat train is in the headlines for three consecutive days. Earlier, the newly introduced Gandhinagar-Mumbai Vande Bharat Express was in the news for colliding with a herd of cattle on Thursday and Friday. The front part of the train got damaged on both these days.
