
New Delhi: The maximum late fee of Rs 500 per return has been fixed till July 2020 for monthly and quarterly sales returns and late payment of tax payment forms. The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has notified that no tax will be levied if no tax liability is created.
CBIC said in a statement, “To give relief to GST taxpayers, the government has limited the maximum late fee of Rs 500 per return for filling the GSTR-3B form for the period July 2017 to July 2020. However, this facility will be available only if the GSTR-3B return of this period is filed before 30 September 2020. “

If there is a tax liability then the maximum late fee will be Rs 500 per return. But for this it is necessary that the GSTR-3B return should be filed by 30 September 2020.
GST returns can also be filled with SMS
Let us know that recently, the government has started a new facility to give better facility to taxpayers. The government has approved filing of GST monthly returns in FORM GSTR-3B through SMS. About 22 lakh small businessmen will benefit from this initiative of the government. Till now these people had to log in to the portal every month, then had to file returns every month.

To take advantage of this, businessmen have to go to their mobile message box and type NIL. Then they have to write their GST number by giving them space and write 3B giving another space.
This SMS has to be sent to the newly issued 5 digit special number. On sending the message, a one time password ie OTP will come on the mobile number registered during the GST registration of the businessman. After confirming it, the businessman’s return will be filed.
