
Kabul: The bloody conflict between Afghanistan and the Taliban continues. Meanwhile, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has said that the situation in the country will improve in the next 6 months. He stressed that the security of cities is his government’s priority. Addressing a virtual cabinet meeting, Ghani said on Sunday that the Taliban had become more brutal and oppressive over the past two decades.
President Ashraf Ghani said, ‘He has no desire for prosperity or progress. We want peace but they are not ready to surrender. They will not hold meaningful talks until the situation on the battlefield changes. Therefore, our stand should be clear. For this people across the country will have to come together.

Ghani’s remarks came after Afghan forces bombed Taliban fighters and their positions on Sunday. The Taliban also attacked the airport in Kandahar, Afghanistan’s second-largest city and the rebels’ former stronghold. attacked with at least three rockets and said it was aimed at thwarting airstrikes by Afghan government forces. “The Kandahar airport was targeted by us because the enemy was using it as a base to conduct airstrikes against us,” Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid told Reuters news agency.
Taliban fighters have also attacked at least two other provincial capitals, including Lashkar Gah in Helmand and Herat in the province of the same name. The government has said that Afghanistan’s National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) have killed hundreds of Taliban militants across the country. At least 200 Taliban militants were killed in an airstrike by a US Air Force B-52 aircraft in Herat province.
