26 players infected with coronavirus in NIS Patiala

New Delhi: Sports Authority of India official said on Wednesday that the National Institute of Sports in Patiala, the players, and partners participating in various events camps at the National Institute of Sports at NIS. Of the 380 staff members, 26 athletes have been found to be positive in the Covid-19 investigation. The source told that although none of these 26 positive athletes are going to the Olympics.

SAI’s source confirmed that Indian men’s boxing head coach CA Kutappa and Shot Put coach Mohinder Singh Dhillon were among those who were found positive in the recent test. Cy’s source said, “Recently about 380 players have tested Covid-19 at NIS Patiala. This investigation was not surprising but was conducted by all. He said 26 of these 380 athletes have come positive for the virus but the good thing is that they are not Olympic-going players. These positive athletes have been kept in seclusion and the entire campus has been sanitized.

The NIS mainly consists of boxers, track and field athletes and lifters, besides athletes from the Olympics, who also participate in the Olympics. The boxers who have been found positive include Asian silver medalist Deepak Kumar and India Open gold medalist Sanjeet. Another source said, “Some more reports are awaited.”
