New Delhi: Due to the Coronavirus epidemic (Covid-19 Pandemic), the culture of work from home has increased. Due to this, there is a lot of damage to the spinal cord. Any kind of damage to the spine affects a person physically, mentally, and emotionally. Research by PMC Lab says that during Covid-19, 41.2 percent of people working from home complained of back pain and 23.5 percent of people complained of neck pain.

According to the report, if a 6-minute walk is done after every hour of sitting, damage to the spine can be avoided. Apart from this, it has been advised to do yogasanas like Child’s Pose, Cat and Cow Pose daily.

Research from the National Institutes of Health suggests that spinal disturbances affect a person both physically and emotionally. The discs of the spinal cord start shrinking due to continuous bending. Due to less physical activity, the ligaments around the spinal cord begin to tighten. This reduces the flexibility of the spine. As a result, long sitting causes back pain.

Research has said that due to excessive dilation of the spinal cord, the muscles in and around the abdomen begin to weaken. This happens with long sittings.

Neck pain occurs due to tension in the cervical vertebrae connecting the spine to the head. Along with this, the muscles of the shoulders and back are also damaged. When there is no movement, the amount of blood and oxygen reaching the brain decreases. The ability to think is affected. Therefore, those doing work from home are advised to exercise and walk daily.
