Harda: Today is Gandhi Jayanti. The students of the school say that they feel proud to wear Gandhi topi. Along with this, there is an inspiration to follow the ideals of Gandhiji. In the entire division, it is known as Gandhi Topiwale School. However, the number of children taking admitted to school is decreasing year by year. But the school management and the children say that they will keep Gandhiji’s tradition alive.
Situated in the village of Chhipwad in the Harda district, this government school was started on January 1, 1892. Its specialty is that the records of all the students studying in this school from 131 years old till today have been kept safe. It is said that Gandhi himself had come to Harda during the freedom struggle. At that time Gandhiji had started spinning the wheel here.
Now 136 children studying till class eight
Since then, the feeling of people toward Gandhiji and his ideals started to shake. The beginning of wearing the Gandhi cap in school has taken the form of tradition in the school today. According to student Balram Meena, all the students studying here come wearing Gandhi caps. There is a total of 136 children in the school from classes 1 to 8. Here the students also learned to operate the spinning wheel, so that they could become self-reliant.
Emphasis on basic education from the very beginning in the school
In this school, along with studies from the very beginning, emphasis is also laid on basic education to the children. Since then there is a tradition of giving basic education to the children studying in this school for a living along with studies. Some traditions have been reduced according to the time and need, but the school teacher says that children still talk about feeling proud by wearing the Gandhi cap. The oldest school teachers of the division tell that all the students are following this tradition voluntarily.
