New Delhi: Labor and Employment Minister Bhupendra Yadav said in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday that within 100 days of the launch of the e-shram portal, 11 crore workers have registered themselves and the government is providing the insurance. The workers of the unorganized sector who register on this portal get the benefits of government schemes and services. Yadav gave this information in reply to supplementary questions during Question Hour in Rajya Sabha.

Referring to the various steps taken by the government for the welfare of workers in the unorganized sector during the period of Covid, he said that the Government of India is conducting four surveys, which include surveys on the unorganized sector, migrant workers and domestic workers, apart from institution-based surveys. He said that action has also been started on the survey related to migrant workers and domestic workers.

Referring to the withdrawal of three agricultural laws in the face of protests, Leader of Opposition in the House Mallikarjun Kharge asked whether the three laws made by the government related to workers would be reconsidered. He said that the government must have received a memorandum from the trade unions and they say that the new labor laws are not in the interest of the workers. In response, Yadav said that the government has made four laws (codes) for the workers.

He said that in order to simplify and streamline the existing labor laws, the Central Government has enacted four Labor Codes. These include Wage Code 2019, Industrial Relations Code 2020, Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code 2020, and Social Security Organization 2020. The Labor and Employment Minister said that the process of making rules by the states with respect to the four labor codes is going on and the work of notification is also going on. He said that its notification has been issued in more than 23 states and Congress-ruled states are also included in these states.
